The Quinta da Capela is not just a traditional Madeiran ´Quinta´ or Manor House. This centennial property, licensed as a rural tourism property, offers the possibility to live in an exquisite classified building, with a ´museum´ feel, full of history and culture.

Its location on a hilltop in Porto da Cruz, on the northeast of Madeira Island, guarantees an amazing view to the Penha d´Águia mountain and the Atlantic ocean beyond. On very clear days one can actually see the silhouette of the neigbouring island, Porto Santo. The 1650 sq. metres property also benefits from the tranquility and privacy of the forest and adjacent agricultural lands, without being far from modern life, a couple of minutes away.

Actually it is just 5 minutes from the ocean and pools, located in the centre of Porto da Cruz, where you can also find local restaurants and shops. It is just 15 minutes from the airport and only 30 minutes from Funchal.

After climbing the exterior access stairs to the property, the mature and well kept garden lead to the majestic facade of the chapel, which is part of the manor house. The main access door, located to the left of the chapel, opens up to a well-appointed reception room. All the rooms are furnished with various antiques added bit by bit through the years, feature solid wooden floors and architectural details in the white ceilings. The furniture is not included in the sales price. At the ground level, the property offers three spacious bedrooms, a sitting room and two generous sized bathrooms.

The first floor offers two further bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a living room. There is an internal private balcony from which one could attend the mass celebrated in the chapel.

When the current owner fell in love with this property back in 1984, the house was in ruins. Built originally in 1692 as a residence for a local noble family, the property was completely renovated in 1990 using authentic materials, and maintaining the original facade and internal design & layout.

In 1994 it was classified as a protected historical building with cultural local value and obtained its habitational licence for tourism purposes. This licence is part of the property but if you are considering using the property for full time living, this can be terminated by request.
